7 Reasons For Low Oil Pressure in a Diesel Engine
We have tried everything sensors, pump, ecm, fuel regulator, etc When it first stalled it was like it was out of fuel so checked the filters and they were full so then we drug it into the the shop and started to T. Hooked it to ET and it had two codes and a bad knock when turning it over. Changed injector six with o-ring the knock went away but still there is the and everything is new.
Injection actuation pressure shows then goes to DIAG. The pump is new and I have had the valve cover off all morning looking for leaks. Should it be spraying or barely seeping or would it matter. The gauges we tried are crapp so I will try to round up a new gauge.
With the budget crisis going on they want let us spend any money right now. I am going to need batteries before long lol. I am gettting smoke but it looks to be coming through the intake any reason for this some out of exhaust too. And that bad fuel knock sounds like is back, i am guessing it is still not getting enough fuel. Still cant get this thing to run. I noticed this morning there is exhaust coming from the Air inatke, everything seems to be running right though. It just will not bust off no oil leaking fuel seems to be good same with the oil pressures.
Any Ideas. You have proabbly allready checked this but the fuel shut off solenoid is getting power isnt it? Skip to Main Content. Expand search. Search Search. View This Post.
September 25, at PM. Does ET show engine speed when cranking? What is the injection actuation pressure when cranking? Either the HEUI pump has no output pressure or you have a massive leak. If there are no broken tubes or major oil leaks, deadhead the HEUI pump to check pressure. Should be over PSI. Installation of the jumper tubes is critical. You must follow the installation procedure exactly.
These tubes cannot leak as they must withstand over psi oil pressure! The fault code indicates a mechanical problem with the HEUI system. Exhaust from the intake indicates leaking valves or a valve timing problem camshaft out of time. Leaking valves on one cylinder would not prevent an engine from starting. Hello all, Where is The engine? I can help you repair it.By BrianBJuly 21, in Engines. After a long drive at freeway speeds when I slow down to city street speeds and then come to a stop at a light, sometimes I get either a Low Oil light or Low Oil Level light along with a warning chime.
The light goes off and the warning chime stops after a few seconds. The gauge also reads low.
This has gone on since I have owned the coach. I have had three oil and filter changes so far. Oil testing shows all normal and no evidence of wear. Engine has only 45K miles. I called CAT some time ago and they said that it should not be a problem as the engine will stop if there is no oil pressure.
I think it might be a bad sending unit. I don't see where the sender is located on the passenger side or I just don't recognize it.
I am also going to install a mechanical gauge and see what that reads compared to the dash gauge. Your chassis maker chose and installed the sender unit for the dash gauges. Check with them for it's location. But, yes, it is generally on the passenger's side of the engine. And, as the Caterpillar tech told you, if oil pressure is too low, the engine will just quit running, as oil pressure is used to "power" the fuel injection.
I too have oil pressure indicater issues. My guage, no matter how cold it gets on start up, only reads to the middle of the dial on start up. As the engine warms up, it quickly falls to the "L" on the guage only coming up slightly if I rev the engine.
I changed out the engine sensor, and it made no difference. The engine computer has never flashed an oil pressure or low oil warning.
Next is change out the guage? Most coaches have both. You can post now and register later. Please login or register. I recently bought a Freightliner M2 with 53, miles. It runs and looks great, as it should. Under load towing, the oil pressure runs right at 40 psi. My son's M2 with overmiles stays near 50, also a Cat C7. My other M2 with a Mercedes also stays right at Should my lower pressure be a concern?
Hot idle is just under 25 psi. Are the senders or gauges known to be inaccurate? If I were to install a mechanical gauge, does anyone know where to tap into?
The oil pressure sensor is located just to to the left of the ECU and the right of the slobber tube. You can tee a mechanical gauge at that point to compare you pressure. I don't know the exact spec for your engine serial, but I seem to recall minimum spec at hot idle is around 6 psi. Your engine will set a DTC for low and very low oil pressure and should shut down to protect the engine I have attached a sensor location for the c7 and oil pressure charts from my c9 which will be similar to your c7 for a comparison.

High oil pressure - 3126 engine
And now for the real story. Oil pressure is controlled by a Injection actuator pressure sensor and valve. Oil pressure goes as high as psi. This oil pressure controls the fuel injectors fuel flow. The engine computer controls and regulates this do to the fuel schedules programmed.
The computer will shut down the engine due to oil, low oil, low pressure. Now for the really good stuff, the oil gauge on the dash? Is an option, and not normally installed. So why is it there? For warm and fuzzies for us guys. The low pressure oil pressure is regulated by a valve within the engine oil pump in the oil pan. It is usually limited to about psi, any more than that you start blowing out the o ring seal on the oil filter. Quote from: toolz on July 05,PM. Towing Honda CRV.

Hi folks I am interested in hearing from people that own a cat engine and have had problems with them expesially if the have dropped a valve. I am on my third engine and have dropped a valve in each case i also know of at least three other people that have had the same problem.

I have a Beaver Marquis and I'm having major problems with no low end power or top end power.
The problem started out on a drive from Baton Rogue to Terre Haute. It was going down the road at 65 one minute then it was struggling to maintain 45 mph for the duration of the drive. I've changed all the filters and have ran a temp fuel hose on the outside of the RV to verify that the one under it isn't my problem.
I just replaced the transfer pump and rebuilt the check valve and the injector pressure jumped from the 's to 's. The only code the engine throws a Assume you have checked your air intake and air filter for bird nests, wet filter element, or other severe restriction.

But certainly on Monday you can confirm proper boost and they can also tell you what the Last time that happened to my coach, one exhaust pipe from the right manifold cracked, it looked fine, but when revved up the crack would open up, causing lack of boost.
Just something else to look for in case. Good thought. Exhaust leaks are pretty easy to identify on a diesel. LOTS of black soot around the leak! Right now the intake tube is disconnected while we checked for fuel leaks but I have checked the filter and it was clean.
The My google foo came back with one of the 5 sensors that run the engine is causing that error or a bad ECM. That is why the jumping boost pressure is bothering me. I had it downshift a few drives ago and it jumped up to 16 but came down to 10 and today it isn't reading at all. With the trans in neutral it is slow to rev.
